The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupé 1.8i is one of the good-looking coupe-cabriolet available. And unlike any coupe-cabrios out there that are derived from a hatchback with a sort of weird looking elongated boot to accommodate the retractable metal roof, the MX-5 was designed from the very beginning as a two-seater convertible sports car. This also explains why it looks stunning with roof up or roof down.
However the MX-5 is not all just about fabulous looks. The MX-5 Roadster Coupe feels every inch a sports car with its rear-wheel drive, powerful engine, and direct steering which provides the car with a clean, spirited feeling as you sit low to the ground whiz through the traffic and round the bends.
The MX-5 Roadster is quick even if it is only equipped with a 1.8i and not the top-of-the-range 2.0i. And even with only entry-level specs the Roadster coupe still manages to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in under 9.6 seconds which is the result of having 124 bhp in a fairly light vehicle which is just 37 kg more than the soft-top version which is not entirely bad considering the weight of the metal roof together with all the associated mechanical gizmos and Mazda accessories that it has. Overall the MX-5 Roadster feels responsive and definitely not boring.
Mazda said that car’s well balanced driving dynamics “reflect the Japanese ideal of Jinba Ittai, the symbiosis between rider and horse”. This is exactly what I love about Mazda, the car is not weird but the theme is combined together produces one interesting vehicle.
The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe appeals to both sexes and it’s as good to drive as it is to look at. And by the way it only takes about 12 seconds to open and close the retractable hardtop. The price of the Roadster coupe is a little expensive. The entry-level model of the MX-5 Roadster Coupe starts at £18,530, which is slightly higher than that of the entry-level coupe-cabrios from Ford or Vauxhall and almost £4,000 more than the Peugeot 207 CC 1.6 or the Mitsubishi Colt CZC.
In addition every model in the MX-5 Roadster Coupe lineup will have an iPod® connectivity. The connection is found in the glovebox. The iPod® can be operated using the steering-wheel mounted audio controls. Owners can play their favorite tunes from their iPod® playlist through the car’s audio system. The system is only compatible with Apple iPods® and not with other MP3 players. Likewise every MX-5 Roadster Coupe buyer will also be able to order a BOSE® SoundDock home iPod® docking station at 20 percent discount.
Customers may also choose from three powertrains that include 1.8i or 2.0i with 5-speed gearbox, 2.0i Sport with 6-speed gearbox plus a range of options and accessories to customize their cars. The MX-5 Roadster Coupe has also launched a special web site that offers customers a choice of all four 2 liter models---2.0i Option Pack, 2.0i Option Pack with Leather, 2.0i Sport and 2.0i Sport with BOSE®---in up to six colors.
All 2-liter models will feature side airbags while the dynamic stability control with traction control is made standard on 2.0i Option pack models and above. There are also six body colors to choose from including three Mica colors that comes in Stormy Blue, Copper Red, and Galaxy Grey also included is Sunlight Silver and two solid colors in Brilliant Black and True Red.
